Giant rian storm - waiting for taxi

This will be a long wait - in line now for 35 mins and hardly moved. Taxis are rare when it rains at rush hour. This morning I stayed at the apartment on a conference call till 8:30. Then could not get a taxi, walked half a mile to main intersection and got one in 10 mins.

Had lunch with Mike Sheet's son - he is an attorney here in BJ. Been here for 5 yrs. Meet him before when he was 13 or 14. Recruited him to help with scouts.

A friend at church was a Woodbadge course director just before coming to BJ. We are thinking about doing the first ever Woodbadge course in China. Can you say Dragon Patrol! May need to import staff to pull it off, but it would be fun.

Scott Family Restaurant

Who knew the Scott Family had an italian restaurant in a back ally in BJ. The food is pretty good - we had a pizza there a while back. Not sure why the old location location location didn't make it here. It is really in an out of the way place. Their symbol is a Fox not a bear.

Sunday March 13th

I woke up this morning and it was really polluted outside. I spent about 75 mins on Skype with Grandma Davis. Gary and Pam brought her to their home so we could Skype. Grandma was pretty impressed with the technology.

Today was F & T meeting and we had some very powerfully testimonies given, it was a great meeting. Last Wed - Fri was the SE Asia Women's Conference in HK. One of the Sisters in the branch that attended the conference got up and told a story about how she had been a missionary 20 yrs ago in HK and had baptized a lady. She wanted to find her and meet up at the Conference, so she sent a friend in HK a yellow sticky note with just the ladies name and 20 yr old address + her email address in BJ. After about 2 weeks the yellow sticky note found its way to the lady in HK. She sent an email back that said, I don't know who you are or why you are looking for me - but might you be the Sister that taught me the Gosple?" So of all the possiblilies of who could be trying to contact her - she thought it might be her missionary. So when Sister Barton was in HK for the conference she was able to meet up with the women she taught and baptized 20 yrs ago. This ladies son is now on a mission - his mom had him write an email to Sister Barton from the mission field thanking her for teaching their family. This lady has brought 7 members of her family into the Church and has another son preparing to go on a mission. They got to attend the HK Temple together. Sister Barton said every family member constantly thanked her bringing the Gospel into their lives.

After church it was very windy and all the pollution was gone, so I walked home -it was sunny and warm, a bit windy. I changed and went for a really long exploration of the neighborhood. Found an April Gourmet store about 5 mins from the house. They have a nice selection of fresh meat and reasonable prices, $4.50 for a Duncan Hines cake mix. Also found the WuMart - I guess that is a knock off on Wal Mart - its a big store with lots of good stuff - much closer than the real Wal Mart. Also found one of the other apartment building I was shown when here house hunting. They teach fencing in their gym + they have a climbing wall. But i think it was for residents only.

See ya later
