The National Boy Scout Jamboree makes the front page of USA today!
"FORT A.P. HILL, Va. — Onis Lentz of Merced, Calif., remembers receiving his Cub Scout pin in 1939 right after his father signed him up for what he calls "the greatest youth organization in the world."
He smiles as he recalls a special adventure with fellow Scouts — the first time he tried to swim, which came after leaping off the end of a rope swing and plunging into a lake. He says he also loved taking hikes with his troop.
Lentz says through the years he has sought out troops as he traveled the world with the Air Force, and then later as he worked as a meteorologist and school administrator.
Through Wednesday, Lentz will work in an information tent at the Boy Scouts of America's 2010 National Scout Jamboree. The event, which began July 26, also marks Scouting's 100th anniversary.
Scouts ages 12 to 18 from 50 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories and 26 nations are taking part in activities from archery and fishing to robotics and scaling a 40-foot wall...."
